Named for Petersburg native son and Original Tuskegee Airman USAF LTC Howard Lee Baugh (1920-2008), HBC-TAI serves the central Virginia area and is one of (56) nationwide chapters of the esteemed Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.(TAI) National Organization.

The founding Board Members of HBC-TAI were:

  • LTC Veronica Baker
  • COL (Ret) James R. Clark, Sr.

  • LTC (Ret) Jona McKee

The founding Incorporators of HBC-TAI were:

The HBC-TAI mission is the same as the TAI mission:

  • Honoring the accomplishments and perpetuating the history of African-Americans who participated in air crew, ground crew and operations support training in the Army Air Corps during WWII who are now known as the "Tuskegee Airmen".
  • Introducing young people across the nation to the world of aviation and science through local and national programs such as Young Eagles and TAI youth programs and activities.
  • Providing educational assistance to students and awards to deserving individuals, groups and corporations whose deeds lend support to TAI’s goals. TAI also supports the Tuskegee Airmen Award presented to deserving cadets in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Program.

In keeping with the goal of "Honoring the accomplishments and perpetuating the history..." of the Tuskegee Airmen, HBC-TAI will be erecting an 6-foot statue of Petersburg native, decorated WWII Fighter Pilot, and Original Tuskegee Airman Lt. Col. Howard Baugh. This statue will be placed in the central Virginia area and serve to recognize and commemorate the many important and enduring contributions of the WWII American heroes known as the "Tuskegee Airmen".
