Tuskegee Airmen, INC.
248 of the 996 who earned their wings at Tuskegee were Twin Engine (TE) B-25 Mitchell BomberPilots. Theywere assigned to the 477th Bombardment Group that was activated in 1943 under the command of COL R. Selway. His immediate superior was the Commanding General of the First Air Force, Major General F. O. Hunter. Both Selway and Hunter were white officers from the "Jim Crow" south. The 477th would never see combat due to the deliberate training obstacles, subterfuge, and demoralizing racist policies perpetrated directly upon the 477th by Selway and Hunter.
